Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength not one of them is missing.
Isaiah 40:26
The day at camp full of young teens had been hot. Toward evening a group of leaders relaxed in a hillside lodge. Mountains surrounded the site and their beauty inspired us. Suddenly we heard thunder in the distance. I cringed, fearing the ferocity of a thunderstorm . Soon, one of the men in the group called out, “Look at that lightning coming across the mountains. What a way to see the magnificence of God’s creation!”
I wanted nothing more than to find a safe corner until the storm was over. However, ashamed of my fears, but still trembling, I followed the others outside to watch the storm’s approach. In the darkening sky, the lightning flashes were indeed magnificent. As we watched, they rode the mountains, bringing wind that caused the trees to dance and bow and finally, released a refreshing rain. After the storm, we watched the stars appear, one by one, called out by the great power and mighty strength of their Creator.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for a terrifying experience that ended in a glimpse of Your
Glory. O Lord, there is truly no one like You, who commands the wind and
rain, sets the stars in place, and still cares tenderly for Your frightened
creatures. Help me to see Your Glory in all the storms of my life. Amen
