The word ‘holy’ appears in various forms over 600 times in the Bible. Though we can never attain holiness – only God has that attribute – He honors our pursuit of it. We are not permitted to throw our hands up in defeat; we are not excused from trying. God expects His children to lead holy lives. Holiness remains the bar that He has set, and
He promises to help us daily through His indwelling Spirit.
Holiness starts with obedience in the small decisions you make throughout the day. Becoming holy is a process – sometimes taken with great rapid strides – more often with baby-steps and small internal changes over time. Does God whisper to you to put that book down or avoid a certain TV show? Does He nudge you to curb your tongue or fix your short fuse? Can you treat your husband more kindly, your children more patiently, your neighbors more warmly?
Open the door of your heart and watch God go to work in your life! He will reveal His holiness and the areas where He wants you to change and grow. Your responsibility is opening up your life to Him. Our Holy God promises to continue His work in your life until you are ‘finished’ (Philippians 1:6). Spend time with Him today.
