Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its thorns.
Genesis 22:13
We bought a new car last night. Well, a newer car. We found one through a car salesman who goes to our church. Saw it, drove it, bought it; finished.
Frankly, I prayed only a little about it. I lifted up our safety and our finances to God during the short contemplative process. My husband did the same. Our hearts were completely at ease after the moderately expensive purchase. Our Heavenly Parent knew what we needed and He provided, just like He promised.
I’ve read that there are men who point to their sports cars and exclaim “Jehovah Jireh!,” giving glory to God for the provision. When God provided the sacrificial ram for Abraham (Gen. 22:11-14), we recieved this wonderful Name revealing God’s character – one of provision and power. Jehovah Jireh is traditionally translated “The God Who Provides” but in truth, it means “the God who sees”, or “who sees to it”. His supernatural knowledge sees what provision is needed, and ‘He sees to it’. Before we ask, before we’re even born, He is at work forming and shaping our circumstances and ordering all things in place for us. God provides for us just as He provided a ram for Abraham.
Our earthly Dads are good men who provide for us and do the best they’re able. But one thing is certain – they aren’t perfect. I’m so glad that as children of God we have the perfect Parent who, in good times and bad, holds the universe in His hands (Isaiah 40:25-26) and has everything on earth at His disposal (Psalm 24:1)!
Do you trust God to provide what you need? When God does provide, and He will, do you give thanks? Take time today to go to God with your needs, and to thank Him for what He has given you.
