Minding My Own Business

Heart Hug From God – Daily Devotional

“You also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business,       and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you.”

1 Thessalonians 4:11

Do you desire a quiet life?  What does a quiet life look like?  A life of worry and stress looks like a day filled with rushing and fretting over things we can’t control.  A life of calm and quiet looks like grace under fire; we see a person who never gets upset even when the world is collapsing around them.  Jesus wants to give us that life of quiet and peace even in the midst of the chaos that is our daily schedules.  We need to spend time daily in His word and focus on the things He says are important.

This verse reminds us to mind our own business and work with our own hands.  Why are these two things important enough to God to include them in the Bible?  What was God trying to say?  He was telling us to get busy and quit being busy-bodies!  God knew that when we are idle we tend to get into trouble.  We begin to look around at others instead of looking up at God.  Gossip and idleness can ruin lives.

Find a moment of quietness to be alone with God, and encourage another in Christ this weekend.
