“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will   is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:1-2

What do you eat? Do you eat a lot of junk food? I love nachos and have to be careful or I will eat nothing else. What do you read? The latest pulp novel or romance? What do you watch on TV? Reruns you have seen several times?

In Romans Paul encourages us to offer our bodies to God. This means what goes in our body and in our mind. We are encouraged to be wise in our eating and take care of what God has given us. Paul also says to be transformed in our mind while reminding us that, as Christians, we are God’s chosen people. We cannot reflect His glory if we are unhealthy in our body and untrained in our minds.

As women, we need to be knowledgeable about the food we put in our bodies. We can choose healthy options instead of the chili cheese fries. We can be smart about portion sizes and not overeat. We can take the time to learn about whole grains and read labels in the grocery store instead of grabbing the items we have always picked up.

We can also train our minds through God’s word. We can participate in a group Bible study where we are challenged by other group members. We can make time for a Quiet Time with God each day so we can hear Him speak personally to us. And we can choose to avoid those things that are unholy and would corrupt our minds.

Transform your eating habits this week. Transform your mind by spending time with God reading scripture and searching for His will in your life. Your body and your life will thank you.
