Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
Proverbs 20:15
Last night my family went into crisis mode, when my daughter’s biological father, absent for 12 years, contacted her via Facebook. She hasn’t seen him since she was 4. As you might imagine, we needed some Godly advice as to how to proceed. My husband almost called our pastor in the middle of the night – we both couldn’t sleep – but thankfully he held back. Today, I had lunch with a trusted friend and decided to share with her.
Godly, wise friends are essential in our walk with the Lord. They are grounded in the Word, encouraging and truthful, sober but with loving advice. I’ve found a treasure in my friend. She listened as I rambled and when I was done, she spoke the truth I needed to hear.
She reminded me that there are no surprises with God. He has plans for how this event will eventually play out (Proverbs 21:30). He is sovereign over the universe, even my little corner of it (Psalm 24:1-2)! She encouraged me with God’s promises: that He works all things for good for His children (Romans 8:28) and that He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). I took notes, I cried, we hugged. She is a treasure in both happy times and times of distress.
We all need a Godly friend: one that is knowledgeable enough in God’s Word to advise us; who will pray for us in a needful situation; who blesses us with her wisdom. These girlfriends are a gift from above, and I’m so thankful for mine. I pray that you have the privilege of having a godly friend, and of being a godly friend.
