Delighting in the Lord

Heart Hug From God – Daily Devotional

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4

This passage is such a blessing to me.  When I first read it, my thoughts and understanding were shallow and superficial.  As I have grown closer to the Lord, I have come to realize that this is the essence of how God transforms my heart. The more I seek Him and become focused on Him, the more I long for Him.  He becomes my desire.  My life is focused on pleasing Him, being obedient and doing His will.  I am transformed. What a joy when He transforms our hearts from self-centered, selfish desires to God-centered, God-serving desires.  Psalm 37 reveals the joy, peace, wisdom, and contentment that we can have if we love the Lord.

When the Lord becomes the desire of our heart, these things begin to happen —-

We look beyond persons as they are and see each as a child of God.
We look beyond the circumstance and see God’s hand at work.
We look past the panic to prayer.
We don’t look at where we could be – we are content where we are.
We begin to focus on what God has for us to do.
Our attitude becomes that of a servant, not to man, but to God.
Our earthly work is done as if God were the CEO of our company.
God becomes the CEO of our life.

God tenders the heart. He tears away the inward focus and gives us Christ-like sensitivities that revolutionize the way we react to the world.

Lord, thank you for being the Master Designer – the one who is responsible for my shape.  Thank you for patiently molding me and making me into what you would have me to be.  Thank you for being the best Heart Surgeon.   Only you can restore the damaged chambers and remove the scars. O what a joy to be a child in whom you have begun a new work. I can’t wait until the finished product stands faultless before you in eternity.
