“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.”
Proverbs 29:11
How do you show your emotions?Do you throw temper tantrums, rant and rave. And have a good old fashioned hissy fit?!
Proverbs 29 says “Only a fool gives full vent to his anger” and just recently I lived this verse.I was in a very frustrating conference call that was not going well.Nothing was being accomplished and I had had enough.I admit I gave full vent to my anger that day.I was categorized as a fool.Oh, I felt momentarily better and the conference call ended soon after that, but in the quiet moments after I hung up the phone God was speaking to my heart about my outburst.
Many of King David’s Psalms tell us to call to the Lord.David goes on to tell us that God is always listening and he will answer when we call.God was saying to me in that quiet moment, “you could have come to me.You didn’t have to act like that.”David should be our example of taking our frustrations to the Lord. Many of David’s psalms begin with his complaints about his enemies.Instead of taking my complaints to the Lord I had taken them to man and made a mess of things.
God will not always give us the answer we want and most of the time His answers won’t be immediate but what he will do is give us “a peace that transcends all understanding”. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Today, cast your cares on the Lord.Give him your frustrations and take in return his peace. That’s the best trade we will ever make!
