We pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.
Colossians 1:10
Our world has many views on what it takes to go to heaven. Some would say it’s about doing good works, others would say it’s about praying five times a day. But what about you? What do you think you need to do to be saved? Go to church? Read your Bible? Be nice to your parents?
Colossians was one of the letters Paul wrote while he was in prison in Rome, and he wrote it to combat the heresy teachings that were creeping into the church at Colossae. In this church, many were beginning to believe that faith in Jesus wasn’t enough, and that they had to DO something to have eternal life. Some thought they had to worship angels, while others thought they had to strictly adhere to the Jewish traditions. Paul wrote that these beliefs were wrong; all they (and we) have to DO is have faith in Jesus.
Our world today isn’t much different. Many believe we must ‘add on’ to be saved: go door-to-door to earn your salvation; dietary restrictions; pray at specific times facing the east. Regardless of what is the ‘add-on’, it is not biblical. Jesus said there was only one way to heaven – through Him. “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me (John 14:6)”. There were no ‘add-ons’ to His statement, no extra credit or bonus points. Nothing additional we need to do but accept Him for who He is.
Are you willing to accept Jesus for who He is, Savior and Son of God? All that you must do is believe and ask Jesus to come into your life today. You are saved by His grace. Please ask Him today.
